0xc000009a error (otherwise known as the “entry point” error) because an application could not load the required DLL.

It is common for DLLs of DirectX or Graphics Packages not to be available for games such as Frotnite. These systems need them, which means that if they are not found, they will stop working – citing the error you usually see.

To fix this, the simplest solution is to get the DLL file on your computer and make sure it is accessible.

To understand why the error shows up, you should appreciate the roll of DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files in Windows.

As the development of operating systems heated up in the 90s, all parties introduced several methods of accessing “libraries” – third-party software packages allowing developers to use standardized code / functionality in their own applications.

Various libraries such as Visual C ++, DirectX, .NET have become standard on Windows – with most applications – even today – relying on them.

The secret of these files is to sort the specific DLL files on your computer. These files can be reused by different applications as long as they are called valid functions.

Unfortunately, if the files are missing, out of date or corrupted, errors like the one you encountered will appear …

  • Unable to start application properly (0xc000009a)
  • Starting BattleEye service …
  • [INFO] File loaded blocked …

The main problem here is that your application does not have the required DLL access, although there are other concerns:

  • DLL files are inaccessible
  • Antivirus can block your application
  • Windows DLL may be corrupted or damaged
  • Other programs may overwrite the DLL
  • Your computer may have a virus

The way to solve this is to make sure that the DLLs are in the system and then they are fully accessible.

The steps below will guide you through this process …

As with many problems in Windows, you need to go through the many possible causes of the problems and fix them one by one.

In case of error 0xc000009a, the following is recommended:

1. Uninstall BattleEye + Check Fortnite

The first and most effective step is to remove the “BattlEye” utility from your computer.

BattleEye is an anti-fraud system shipped with Fortnite – Fortnite needs to work, but sometimes errors can occur:

  • Press the “Windows” + “E” keys on your keyboard
  • Browse for “C: / Program Files / Epic Games / Fortnite / FortniteGame / Binaries / BattlEye”
  • Click “Uninstall_BattlEye.bat”
  • Let the CMD file run
  • Exit and load Epic Games launcher
  • Under the “Fortnite” tab, click the “cog” icon next to the “Launch” button.
  • Select “Verify”
  • Let the process run

When this is done, it is worth restarting your computer.

If this does not resolve the issue, it means that there is a problem with one of the third-party libraries on your computer.

2. Reinstall VC ++

The next step is to reinstall VC ++.

As mentioned, Visual C ++ is a way of standardizing many key features of Microsoft software, and it has become a key feature of the Windows ecosystem.

To make sure this is not a problem (most likely), you need to reinstall any Visual C ++ packages on your computer:

  • In Windows 7, click “Start” and then “Control Panel” and then “Programs and Features”.
  • In Windows, right-click on the “Start” button and select “Applications and Features”.
  • From the list, scroll down to “Microsoft Visual C ++ Redistribution”
  • There may be a large list of different packages
  • Make a list of each year + architecture (x64 / x86) reference paper
  • Uninstall each one
  • Now, browse to your favorite search engine
  • Search for “Visual C ++ redistributable download”
  • Click the first link (must be Microsoft)
  • For each package you previously owned, download new ones from this site
  • After doing this, install each one
  • Restart your computer
  • Try your game again

While this may actually work, for some it may not be the solution.

3. Update DirectX / Graphics Drivers

Next you need to look at DirectX and (perhaps) updating your graphics driver.

DirectX is a graphics library used by Windows to process 3D images. Every game on stage uses this.

Although you can not “reinstall” the DirectX engine, you can * fix it and make sure your graphics driver is working properly …

  • Search online for “DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer”
  • Click the first Microsoft link that appears
  • Click the orange “Download” button
  • Follow the steps to save the file to your computer
  • Open the file and let it run
  • Let me fix the current DirectX installation
  • Restart your computer

After doing this, you may want to reinstall your graphics driver:

  • Go online and search for “DDU” (Display Driver Uninstaller)
  • Download the file you can see from Guru3D
  • Restart your computer in “Safe Mode” (instructions below)
  • In Safe Mode, run the DDU and allow your GFX driver to be removed
  • Restart your computer in “Normal” mode
  • Allow Windows to download the latest driver for your graphics card

To access Safe Mode, it depends on which version of Windows you are using (Windows 10 is difficult to access for some reason):

  • In Windows 7, you must restart your PC as usual
  • Press F8 continuously before Windows starts loading
  • Select “Safe Mode” with the appropriate number on your keyboard
  • In Windows 10, click the “Start” button
  • Select the “Power” button (left glamor menu)
  • Hold down SHIFT and press the “Restart” button
  • This will bring up the blue screen “Windows Recovery Environment”
  • Click “Troubleshoot”> “Advanced Options”> “Startup Settings”> “Restart”

4. Download the file manually

This only works if you have a direct idea that any file is missing / inaccessible.

If you do not have it, you’ll better look at something called a “pro walker” – a free application that allows you to determine which files are required for different software.

  • Click on your favorite search engine
  • Search for “DependencyWalker”
  • Click the first link and download the app
  • Drive it
  • From the top menu, select the “Open” (folder) icon
  • Browse to the executable file that caused the problems and select it
  • The system should highlight which files are needed in the left menu
  • If any of these files appear to be “red”, make sure they are accessible
  • Some applications compile DLL files
  • If you search the DLL file name online, you will quickly find out which package it belongs to
  • If you can find the package, see if you can install it (you need to get the latest version)
  • If you can not see the package, you need to download a new copy of the DLL file

Once you have downloaded the latest version of the DLL file, you need to place it in the C: / Windows / System32 folder.

After doing this, you should try to see if the application works now.

Otherwise, it usually suggests a deeper problem within the OS.

5. Update Windows

It probably doesn’t do much – but the system can give itself some ways to fix it:

  • Windows 7
  • Click “Start”> “Control Panel”> “System & Security”> “Windows Update”
  • Click “Check for updates”
  • Windows 10
  • Press the “Windows” + “I” keys on your keyboard
  • Select “Update and Security”
  • Click “Check for updates”

When the update process is complete, restart your computer and see if the error is resolved.

If you encounter an error after doing all of the above, this suggests that you have a very serious problem with Windows.

Unfortunately, one of the restrictions of web articles is that I can not see exactly what your system is doing so I can not provide any specific advice. If you are still at a loss, I strongly recommend going to one of the big question / answer communities (Reddit / Superuser / Microsoft Answers) to get a more specific set of answers.

If you need further assistance, you may want to talk to someone who can access your computer – usually by contacting a local repairman or someone on Fiverr.
