Just a few days ago Toyota launched the new Toyota Rumion MPV in South Africa. The Toyota Roman is essentially a re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, which is currently on sale in the Indian market. Toyota and Suzuki are now global partners and we have Maruti Suzuki Blaeno based Toyota Glanza on sale in India. The company will also soon launch a Maruti Suzuki Siaz-based Toyota Belta. Also, Roman has already been trademarked in India. So, is the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga based Toyota Roman coming to India soon?

According to a public search by the Government of India on the trademark’s website, the Japanese carmaker filed a trademark for the Romanian nameplate in India in February 2020. Now, with the launch of Roman in South Africa, it is likely that the company may launch in India soon as well. After the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga based Toyota Rumion Toyota Glanza and the soon to be launched Toyota Belta, it could be the third Toyota car in India with a badge engine.

The new Toyota Roman is similar to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga sold in India, save for some cosmetic updates including a new grille, new upholstery and Toyota’s Beijing with wooden inserts from the inside. This seven-seater MPV is powered by a 1.5-liter K-Series petrol engine that produces maximum power of 105 PS and 138 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 4-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

Etc. Toyota Roman is available in South Africa in three variants S, SX and TX. In addition, there are five color options on offer. They are – Mystic Pearl White, Azure Blue, Seal Gray Metallic, Autumn Blaze Red and Shadow Black Pearl.
