New ‘G.I. Joe’ Animated Series Is Coming in 2022
While many GI Joe fans were delighted at his arrival snake Eyes This year, the world of the beloved Hasbro toy will expand even further as Snake Eyes will be followed by a new animated series. For fans of the original cartoon who created many childhood memories, and of course sold a shedload of toys in the process, this is even more exciting news from a franchise that’s been dormant for too long.
The word for the new animated series comes from Histank, a credible source when it comes to anything GI Joe Related, which was at Licensing Con Brazil, with a presentation by Hasbro Brazil’s licensing chief Marcelo Masotti. While we’re still only getting one big screen in the franchise, Masotti announced that the new series will be arriving next year, and not only that but a second season is already underway in 2023. There was no detail on the exact though. Dates or who will show the series, there was a short clip from the show featuring Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, indicating that they are already deep in production on the series.
Obviously no details yet as to what story the series will follow, but it’s likely that with the longer format format we can expect to see all those classic Joe characters that fans have loved for decades. The franchise has a whole wealth of characters for them to play with, and having multiple episodes to work with means that much more than a short film can be included. Plus, the fact that a second season is already planned makes it seem like there’s a lot going on in this latest iteration of the character and his allies.
The feature film, Snake Eyes, will focus entirely on the origins of one of Joe’s most famous characters, with only Storm Shadow, Scarlett and the Baroness confirmed to appear in the film. Henry Golding plays the lead role in the film, while Andrew Cozy plays Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes’ adopted brother turned foe. Scarlett and The Baroness are played by Samara Weaving and Ursula Corbero, respectively, and fans hoped that the grouping of characters would mean that there would be more to come from the franchise in the future.
Although news of an animated series from Hasbro doesn’t mean the film won’t have a sequel, it looks like there won’t be a follow-up until after 2023. With part of the production taking place under the MGM banner, the future of the sequels is likely to rest in Amazon’s hands since their acquisition. With that in mind, the arrival of the animated series could provide a nice little stop for fans who will be desperate for more after that. Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins Will hit theaters on July 23. this news started comicbook.com.
