Pennies issued statement after shoppers complained about size issues

Pennies says it’s working to improve its shape after several shoppers complained it didn’t fit in their clothes.

The budget retailer is one of Ireland’s most loved brands, stocking affordable fashion for customers throughout the year.

However, lately, many people have questioned on social media why the size marked on clothes does not reflect the size they usually fit in.

One person wrote on Twitter: “I bought some clothes to go for pennies. The sizes I found were 10, 12 and 14. Nothing suited me. 10 and 12 were too big. 14 was too small . what gives ??”

Another shopkeeper wrote, “I bought 2 of the same t-shirts once and had a crop top and a dress. Jeans are always a gamble too.”

While a third commented: “I tried on 4 pairs of the same jeans in the same size and they fit differently.”

The problem came to light last month when Miss Ireland Chelsea Farrell called out pennies after her mom bought four pairs of shorts, which all turned out to be different sizes. A TikTok video showing the shorts went viral and garnered over 650,000 views.

Now in a statement, the company says it is working with both suppliers and technologists to work on these issues.

A spokesperson told RSVP Live: “Everyone is welcome at Pennies which is reflected in the wide size ranges we offer. Consistency of fit matters as much to us as it is to our customers. We are always working with both our suppliers and technologists quality team to track and improve this.”

The spokesperson said shoppers are encouraged to reach for Pennies with any issues with their clothing.

They added: “We continue to fit our designs using size UK data as standard, but always encourage customers to contact us if they have concerns about sizing and we’ll be more than happy to send them Will look into the query.”
